For over twenty years Shield Pest Control has provided preventative and reactive pest control services across one of the UK’s largest and most diverse housing association estates. We recently received notification of a large rat infestation in the loft space of a residential block.

While this initially appeared a routine job we quickly established that the infestation had resulted in a possible fire risk. There is no substitute for every aspect of pest control work to be carried out by a fully qualified technician backed up by a pest control firm with experience and up to date capabilities.

Our on-site surveyor reported that the rat infestation in the loft area had resulted in their nesting in the insulation and that there was significant evidence of rats gnawing at electrical cables. This was immediately reported via personal PDA to the facilities team and a remedial plan was swiftly put into action without the need for lengthy approvals and paperwork. Most importantly the scope of work and schedules for treatment were clearly explained to the tenants every step of the way.

Firstly, we entered the loft and safely disposed of all the contaminated and damaged insulation and then identified and proofed all ingress points in conjunction with a qualified electrician. This detailed preparation of the infested area enabled us to carry out intensive rodent trapping and baiting treatments. Throughout this process we maintained a clear flow of information with the tenants highlighting our reputation of offering a bespoke and personal service.

Once no further rodent activity was present Shield installed new insulation and blocked all possible future ingress points. Shield then carried out a full sanitisation of the area ensuring that it was safe and hygienic for the residents.

The tenants were so happy with the work that they recommended Shield Pest Control to neighbouring properties that are managed/owned by other housing associations. A very satisfying result all round and one that Shield Pest Control remain proud to be part of.
