The cost-of-living crisis has left many families struggling to make ends meet. With the price of essentials like milk, bread, and eggs rocketing, the need for charities like Bromley Borough Food Bank is on the increase. At Shield Pest Control, we’re passionate about helping our community in any way we can and we’re proud to support this amazing local charity.
About Bromley Borough Food Bank
Bromley Borough Food Bank is a community-led charity that has been providing vital support to local people since 2010. The charity is part of a network of food banks across the country supported by The Trussell Trust which is working hard to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. Their quest is to relieve financial hardship by providing emergency food and signposting residents to other organisations that can provide support.
Every day people go hungry in the UK because of unexpected circumstances out of their control like redundancy or receiving an unplanned bill. Receiving a box of food makes a huge difference when people are in crisis and helps to prevent things like crime, family breakdown, and mental health problems. Users of the charity receive up to seven days’ worth of nutritious food to help them through when they’re struggling. The food bank project is supported by local churches and community organisations. To maintain the current level of support for residents, the charity needs a lot of donations which is where local businesses like Shields Pest Control come in. Together with the Royal Warrant Holders Charity Fund, we recently donated £4000 to the charity. But our fundraising efforts don’t stop there.
Half-marathon sponsored walk
On the 20th of May members of staff, including our Managing Director Daniel Steward and Bromley Foodbank staff and volunteers, put their walking boots on and took part in a half-marathon walk to raise much-needed funds for the charity. Not only was the walk a great way for us to keep fit and raise money, but it was also a lovely team-building event. We all appreciate how hard it is to keep up with ever-increasing household costs and we were delighted to be able to give back to our community by raising money this way.
We walked 13.1 miles along some stunning trails, through High Elms and Downe Ramblers Walk before heading to Locksbottom for a celebratory drink where we enjoyed a well-deserved celebratory drink, nibbles and a sit down to rest our weary legs.
Donate to our Just Giving Page
Rising prices make it hard for everyone right now and we appreciate that not everyone is in a position to give much. But every pound donated really has helped to put food on the tables of those in our community who are struggling.
Although we’ve hung up our walking boots for the time being, the fundraising still goes on and we have smashed our initial target of £2,000 and raised an amazing £2,274.00 + gift aid and please see our Just Giving page. In addition, Shield Pest Control’s Contracts & Compliance Manager, Alison Bennett, has also raised £340.00 from residents at a local community Coronation party that she helped organise in May. These additional funds have been used to purchase £340.00 worth of tins, coffee, cleaning products and other essential items which have been delivered to the foodbank.
A big thank you from everyone at Shield Pest Control and the Bromley Borough Foodbank to those who have donated.
